I read this 600+ page book in three days. It consumed me in ways only the best books do. The story of Cyril Avery from the 40s through present day, every chapter jumps seven years. Cyril is gay and reading his story of growing up, grappling with this during a time where gay people were not accepted, the AIDS crisis in America, etc. was a gripping, brutal, poignant read. This book is not for everyone, but I give it 5+ stars. Cyril is a character I will never forget.
