Despite my smile above, I hate cleaning. And when I’m busy, it’s even more challenging to keep up with things. Because frankly, the last thing I want to do is clean after a long day.
That said, I like having a neat-ish house. I just don’t want to spend my life cleaning. Adulting is hard enough – ha!
Here are 5 ways to tackle cleaning chores, even when you are busy:
Make cleaning products accessible
I have cleaning products in all the bathrooms, in the kitchen and above our washer/dryer. Having cleaning products nearby makes it easy to grab a cleaner and wipe down a sink or dust a shelf. I have spray cleaners in simple glass bottles from Grove so that they are pretty when sitting on my counters.
Use products that make cleaning easy
I’m all about anything that makes life easier and cleaning faster, which is why I am obsessed with my Swiffer products. Swiffer is committed to helping people clean quickly so they can get on with living life. I love that they ‘get’ busy people!
I keep my wet jet close to our kitchen for using on our tile floor and the wood floor in the nearby dining room and hallway (yes the solution is safe for wood floors). Our Swiffer vac lives in the living room, always ready for picking up snack crumbs. When I was a kid, I remember my mom would have me scrub the kitchen floors using a sponge and a bucket. I’m glad those days are over – ha! 🙂
Dust with a Swiffer duster
As a child, I remember my grandmother using a feather dusting and the dust flying in the air. She’d love the Swiffer duster, which grabs dust and holds onto it. No more flying dust and surfaces are actually clean. You can actually shake the Swiffer duster and dust won’t come off. I used to hate dusting, but the Swiffer duster makes it a snap.
Involve your kids
Kids are not helpless! They can clean. Moreover, they should. Every day Matthew and I have our kids help with cleaning around the house. Read this post for 5 ways to involve your kids in cleaning.
Do something every day
Whether it is folding a load of laundry or wiping down mirrors, cleaning is less overwhelming to tackle if it is done a little at a time. For instance, I try to put in a load of laundry at night so then I can fold it before going to work in the morning. During busy seasons, maintaining is sometimes the best you can do and that is okay. No one is coming into your house to score how clean it is.
What are your tips for staying on top of cleaning when you are busy?
