Delicious, Easy BBQ Review + Awesome Giveaway

Every summer we attend a huge 4th of July party on July 3rd at our friends Pete and Brandi’s farm. More than 100 people gather on the property that is as quintessential American as it comes. Think vintage decor, an old barn, a creek and lots of fun.

The guests all brings food to potluck and there’s usually quite the spread. That said, I always feel like its a bit heavy on dips, chips and desserts, so this year I wanted to bring something substantial for people to enjoy.

Thankfully, the kind folks at Bryon’s BBQ (available exclusively at Sam’s Club) sent me a 4lb tray of BBQ to try out, and I thought it was perfect for the potluck.

Matthew put it in the crock pot for me since I worked during the day (he works from home) and I couldn’t wait to try it when I got home. As soon as I opened our front door I was greeted to the hickory BBQ smell and yelled, “whoa it smells good in here.”

Matthew chuckled and said, “I know!”

I tasted a fork-full of the pork and was pleasantly surprised. It was every bit as good as the local BBQ pork place we go to here in Nashville. YUM! I knew it was going to be a hit and wished I was bringing twice as much.

A little while after I got home, we headed to the party. We got to the farm about 30 minutes after the party had started because wrangling toddlers while you are throwing up and pregnant makes you late for everything.

When we got there, Pete told us they were waiting for our kids to do the annual hay ride. I quickly said to Matthew, “will you put the food out?” and hopped on the ride with Adeline, who did not want to go without me, and Elias.

It was so sweet to be on the hayride with all of those kids. Adeline wasn’t sure what to think at first, but loved it in the end. And of course, Elias loved every minute of the 20-minute ride around the property.

When the hay ride was over, I headed to the food table since I was starving and wanted to get a few pictures of folks eating the BBQ.

Here’s what the scene looked like – notice everyone was crowded around the end with crock pot of BBQ in it.

I made my way up to the table and went to the crock pot, it was basically empty. As in, people ate that pork up in 20 minutes! I had to scrape the sides to make one sandwich.

I could not believe it. I mean, I could, because the pork truly was delicious, but clearly, word spread and people loved it!


I took that last sandwich to enjoy myself, which I did promptly after Angie modeled for me.

So the next time you are summer potlucking or just need a quick meal, I can’t recommend Byron’s BBQ pork enough. It’s definitely is going to be one of my go-to easy meals to pick up at Sam’s Club in the future, particularly with a baby on the way!

I always bring fruit salad, mostly because I can’t totally screw up fruit salad 😉

Green onion dip – sour cream, green onions, and salt – so EASY, but everyone loves it!

I always bring a strawberry salad, but so love that the BBQ was such a hit (it is such a good feeling when the food you bring disappears, isn’t it?) I love how beautifully ‘4th of July’ your party was…looks like a wonderful time.

Calico Beans are another great crockpot one and reheat well IF there happen to be any leftovers lol

1/2 lb. hamburger (though I do just use a whole pound since that is usually how its sold and great with more meat)
1/2 lb. bacon
1/2 c. chopped onion
1 can pork and beans
1 can kidney beans
1 can white beans
1/2 c. ketchup
1 tsp. salt
3/4 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. vinegar
1 tsp. dry mustard

We have only done it in the crockpot and my sister actually cooks her bacon, drains almost all of the grease then browns her onion and beef in the rest of the bacon grease. Not the healthiest lol but adds a bit more flavor. Then she adds that mixture to everything else in the crockpot. Makes it a lot easier to transport and just heat for regular home eating…but here are the other options.

Cook hamburger, bacon and onions. Mix all ingredients together. Bake at 350 or on top of stove slowly. Excellent crockpot dish also. Easily doubled or tripled.

Just had pork BBQ last night! Try adding a sprinkle of shredded cheddar and some French fried onions (the kind from a can for green bean casserole) to your sandwich…delicious!

I like to bring barbecue meatballs. A big bag of frozen meatballs from Sam’s Club with some Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce and a little brown sugar. Put it all in the crock and let the meatballs heat through. The folks at my church expect me to bring that to every church dinner we have now! :)

We love the Sam’s Club meatballs too. I often make them with Italian marinara and serve as mini sliders. YUM!

I’ll bet their brand is so good..I have never tried it! I make a mean pulled pork bbq in my slow cooker haha

I am a “life’s short, eat dessert 1st kinda guy” lol:) , so I like to bring dessert to summer potlucks/barbecues…..I love to make strawberry shortcake, banana pudding or fruit salad.

Southwest Black bean salad travels well and the longer it marinates, the better it tastes.

I always take fruit like watermelon to summer parties! It’s always a hit! How can watermelon NOT be a hit?!
