HLN Segment: The Push to Lose Weight After Pregnancy

by jessicaturner on May 7, 2014

I was invited to do a few segments for HLN TV while at Mom 2.0 last weekend. One discussion that I participated in was the pressure that women feel to lose weight after pregnancy.

You can watch the segment below (subscribers click here.)

Shockingly (sarcasm), I talked about the importance of encouraging women during that season – through extra help, bringing meals, etc. I have had several friends who recently had babies and I love to help in practical ways.

I love that HLN wanted to have a conversation like this because I think too often the media contributes to the pressures that women face, be it weight, working vs. stay at home, or parenting in general. It was great to talk with other moms about issues like these and how we can empower one another.

What would you add to our conversation? Do you think women feel pressure to lose their baby weight quickly?

Loved your take on this – I’m all about going back to the prairie day traditions of letting the postpartum mother lay in bed for a few weeks while her neighbors run stuff :) lol!!

Thanks for sharing this. I think you were a great example of losing baby weight healthfully after Adeline!
