Weekend Fun: Dragon Paper Airplanes

by jessicaturner on September 28, 2012

As a kid, I used to love kits for making things. One of my favorite kinds of kits were Klutz books because they were beautiful colored books + included all the materials to make something awesome – like friendship bracelets, calligraphy and other fun stuff.

Klutz books are still around today. I often see these books in craft stores like Michaels or JoAnns, but I always dismiss them as “books for older girls.”

So when Klutz approached me to be a brand ambassador for them, my first thought was, I love Klutz, but my second thought was, “I don’t know if they will have anything age/gender appropriate for my family.”

Well they sure do. I couldn’t believe all the “boy” books they have. Two that I had to get were the Paper Flying Dragons and Star Wars Folded Flyers. I knew they would be a huge hit with Elias, but no idea how huge.

I don’t think I have ever seen him be so excited about craft projects as he has been with these. The first night the box of Klutz books arrived, we had to immediately make a dragon from Paper Flying Dragons . If you are looking for a perfect weekend (or really any day!) project, look no further. We are such big fans of this book!!

The book has all the templates you need to make the coolest flying dragons. The paper is high quality coated printed cardstock and the finished products have withstood multiple “crash landings” from Elias. The templates are so easy – event I could make them and I can barely make a regular paper airplane. :)

Three weeks later, he is still asking to make dragons and Star Wars flyers (I’ll share more about those next month!). We make several a week and are building quite the collection. This morning before school we tested out a couple dragons to see if they could hit the sandbox. :)

As a self-proclaimed girly mom, I was so nervous when I found out we were having a boy in 2008. I would have said my crafting bent was for making flowers, not paper flyers.

Four and a half years later, I can honestly say I was made to be a boy mom (at least my boy’s mom!) and I can make dragons with the best of them. I’m so thankful that products like Klutz makes it easy.

I am proud to be a Klutz Crew Brand Ambassador. This is the first in a three-month sponsored series. All thoughts are my own. Like Klutz on Facebook and visit Klutz.com to browse all their fun titles
