Our Last Day at the Beach

by jessicaturner on May 11, 2012

Today was our last full day in Hilton Head, and we enjoyed every minute.

We spent hours on the beach, went shopping at the Tanger Outlets ($80 Loft dress for $5 and $10 Stride Rite shoes!), ate dinner at Harbour Town and took hundreds of pictures at sunset.

In fact, Alyson took more than 100 family photos and there were only TWO where everyone was looking at the camera.

So thankful she was willing to take so many to get this gem.

Of course the bloopers are pretty hysterical…. this is our life. Unedited. :)

I love our crazy little family. I know these photos will be treasured for generations.

I think I am going to make a canvas of the first one!

Saturday morning we may go for one more quick bike ride on the beach (it has been one of Elias’s favorite things to do), then get our things packed up, be sure our ResortQuest condo is tidy and head back to Nashville.

It took us about 11 hours to get down here (we had to make several stops and they all seemed to be long.) We are praying for a smooth, easy trip home. The kids did GREAT on the way down!

Question for you: It is challenging to get a perfect family photo! Do you have any stories in your attempts to get a good one?

Disclosure: ResortQuest® by Wyndham Vacation Rentals generously provided the accommodations at our amazing Sea Pines condo and inspired this week’s Hilton Head vacation series. Peddling Pelican Bike Rentals provided our bikes and pack n’ play. All sight-seeing adventures and opinions are my own!

Great pics—I love the one with Elias screaming. Matt and I have been joking about our “stereotypical family portrait on the beach” that everyone does—the fully stereotypical version being everybody in white shirts and khaki bottoms. We’ll be in white/blue/brown for ours, so almost :0) We head to the gulf tomorrow!

I love the first photo but the second one is my favorite. I just watched the live shoot on Creativelive.com today and the photographer was using a toy that mounted on top of her camera where the flash usually mounts to. Sorry, forgot the name of it. It seemed to work for awhile with the kids. I think getting a good shot with little ones, the photographer has to shoot a lot and engage the kids with “candy” maybe? I saw a Sandy Puc video behind the scenes shoot using smarties to a 2 yr. old and it worked.

You have a beautiful family Jessica!

Great photos! I don’t know whether I prefer the perfect shot or the unedited versions!

We all want the perfect family portrait to hang on the wall….but I love scrapbooking our “bloopers”. Every Christmas our layout includes the “perfect” one that went out on the cards, and then a full page or two of all the others. I think it’s where the personalities really shine, and I believe I will treasure them more than the ones where we are all looking in the same direction and smiling….usually takes about 75-95 shots to get one with 3 kids and 2 adults doing that!

Great pictures! I love the perfect one AND the bloopers. I totally agree that in the bloopers their personalities truly shine!! But yes, in my experience it takes snapping tons of pics to get a great one of my family of 5, especially with having one year old twins. I love our bloopers too… it’s a crazy life that I have, but it’s *my* crazy life and I wouldn’t have it any other way! :)

I hope your trip home went smoothly, Jessica. Our trips home always seem to be worse than the trip heading to our destination.

Actually our trip home was much easier. Adeline slept almost the whole time and I didn’t have strep! :)
