Project Life Tuesday: Week 10

by jessicaturner on March 13, 2012

The Mom Creative
Welcome to Project Life Tuesday 2012! If you are new to The Mom Creative, welcome. I hope you will stay awhile. I’m Jessica – wife to Matthew, mom to Elias, a silly and spirited three-year-old, and Adeline, a delicious, growing baby. I’m also a marketing professional, savvy deal finder, photo lover and memory keeper trying to juggle it all.

I started Project Life Tuesday in 2010 because:

  • I needed to keep myself accountable and on top of my photos each week.
  • My family loved being able to count on a weekly post with pics of the kids.
  • I thought others might want to keep themselves accountable too.

It was a huge blessing and so I am excited to be kicking off my third year of this series.

Each Tuesday, I will share my spread from the previous week, as well as host a linky for readers to link up their pictures/layouts. This year, Epson is sponsoring Project Life Tuesday, and they provided me with their Epson Stylus R2880 Large Format Photo Printer (C11CA16201) for many of my album’s photos. Printing photos at home is hopefully going to help keep me on track!

If you link up, please be sure to include the Project Life Tuesday button or a link to The Mom Creative in your post.

Notes about my album: Before showing my layouts, I want to share a few details about my album:

    • I am using the colbalt kit this year.
    • I stamped all my weekly 6×4 cards and have placed them in my album. It just seemed easiest to get this done all at once. I used a date stamp from a past Project Life kit. If you don’t have on, Amazon has date stamps
for less than $5. You can also find them at office supply stores.
    • I printed my photos at home using my new Epson printer. I loved how convenient it was. I plan to print most of my pictures at home this year, especially large format images, using the Epson Stylus R2880 Large Format Photo Printer (C11CA16201)
    • For a complete list of the products I am using, and more about my approach this year, click here.

This week I kept things very simple – just two page protectors (Design A + one from this multi-pack from We are Memory Keepers) + 6 x 12 page protector.

On the left page, I had a lot of pictures from “muffins with Mommy” at Elias’s school, so in two of the 3×4 pockets, I doubled up on photos – each one is 3×2. I love how the set of 4 little photos looks in the two pockets. I also cropped one photo to 1.5×4 and glued it to the edge of a journaling card, which gave me a lot of room to write + allowed me to fit one more photo in.

I also used some epoxy and dimensional stickers to enhance my cards and photos. I love using my stash while enhancing my pages with these little extras.

The two 6×12 photos of the kids were so lovely on their own, that I only embellished them with a long border sticker and a journaling block right on the page protector itself. I usually put stickers inside the page protector, but I liked the dimension of putting these on the outside.

On this page I included part of the program from Matthew’s and my date night (bottom left). I added a journaling sticker right on top of it to share about our evening.

{Reminder to download and refer to this printable of 100 Bits of Life to include in Project Life. The list has tons of inspirational ideas of extras to include in your Project Life album. These extras add so much to your album!}

I really love the 12×4 photo of Elias doing sidewalk chalk. The unusual size makes the photo really POP on the page.

I also gave myself the freedom this week of not telling every little story. Sometimes I feel like I HAVE to all the best photos from the week. This week, I really wanted to leave room for lots of words, so I had to not include a few photos.  THAT is okay.

Your turn to link up – as a reminder, PLEASE link back to The Mom Creative in your Project Life Tuesday posts. It is the only way for your readers to find all the inspiration in the link-up.

Disclosure: compensated Amazon links used in post.

Another beautiful week Jessica. Your photography is wonderful

I love the long skinny photo across the top. I did that last week, only in the middle of a page and I love how it turned out. Love how yours turned out too. Some photos just lend themselves so well to being cropped like that.

I also love the skinny photo on the side of a journal card. Love sneaking in more photos that way!

Your pages look beautiful, as always. And as always I love the accountability of linking up each week with you. It really helps to motivate me. Last week I was late (didn’t finish my pages until Friday). Can’t believe how I felt behind all week because of it, really affected my attitude about the whole week. Already this week I feel more on top of things. Again, thanks for the motivation!

I guess I was all about the skinny photos this week!

This year I am more on top of Project Life than every before. I’m in such a rhythm that I think I am ALMOST ready to go back and try to tackle 2011, which needs a lot of work!

Hi Jessica, love the 6×12 photos of your children and also the 12×4 – such an unusual size and it looks fantastic!

I love that 12×4 photo! Are you using PS for doing your cropping and editing? I wouldn’t know where to get one printed like that.
Such a beautiful layout again this week. Love the little pieces from your stash, :)

I use photoshop elements and I am fortunate to be able to print large photos at home. You could print on an 8.5×11 and then add a bit of scrapbooking paper for that last inch. :)

Love your pages, Jess!
Love those large photos!
Sending you BIG hugs!

Your layout is beautiful! I’m so with you on feeling like you HAVE to use every good photo! I’m trying really hard to get away from that, but who knows if it will work! Thanks for all of the wonderful inspiration!

What a beautiful photo of that chalk moment! And I love those little epoxy ‘buttons’ – just enough embellishment to add that special something.

jessicaturner March 13, 2012 at 9:40 am

Epoxy stickers always look great, in my opinion. There is just something special about them. :)

This might seem like a lame question, but I’m just checking in on your Project Life now, even though I’ve known about it… do you get the photos every week, do you print them out yourself or order them?
If you print them out yourself do you have a nice printer or just an ordinary printer with nice ink and photo paper.
Just trying to see if this is something I want to get into. :)

Jessica @ The Mom Creative March 13, 2012 at 2:14 pm

Hi Heather – I print the photos at home each week using the Epson Stylus R2880 Large Format Photo Printer (see link in the post). The previous 3 years I have printed my photos using sites like Snapfish, Shutterfly and Walgreens.

love your pages!!!!

Wow Jessica, great pages, love the enlarged photo of your son drawing on the ground with the chalk, how amazing, what a wonderful captured moment.

Catherine at Design Editor March 14, 2012 at 2:10 pm

Absolutely LOVING the photo of your son coloring with chalk on the ground-a great shot!

Sarah March 15, 2012 at 3:59 am

Sometimes it’s hard to pick just a few things to say you especially love. This is one of those weeks! I think my very favorite though, are the two long photos. Fantastic. You have a great style. I’m glad you’re doing what works for you! More pictures, more words, it’s your story to tell. I’m so happy you share it!
