On Material Things

The process of getting our condo ready for sale has been long, but rewarding.

Last summer, we rented a small storage unit to store a bunch of unnecessary items and make the condo more spacious. (Very HGTV of us, right?)

We thought we would put the condo on the market in the fall, but decided to wait.

During that period of waiting, we just kept packing up boxes.

And more boxes.

And more boxes.

And the most surprising thing – we have hardly noticed what is “missing” – despite dozens and dozens of boxes being in storage.

For the rest, visit (in)courage.

Thanks so much for this, Jessica. I am struggling right now with renting a storage unit! I will be in England for the next 18 months, working with YWAM, and I am renting out my house. I have always been opposed to storage units, mostly because of what you’ve written above. But, it is cheaper to store my furniture than to have to buy all new if and when I come back. Sigh. Anyway, I so enjoy the book club on (in) courage, and thanks for your writing! Blessings to you-all is grace!

Hi Jessica, I’m a new subscriber to your blog. I get what you mean about not missing “stuff”. I’m learning in my old age that it’s the people living inside a house, that really make a home. BTW….I really enjoyed the One Thousand Gifts book club. Big thanks to you, Angie and Ann.

Hi, I just subscribed to your blog so that I could thank you for what you have shared. I am a true procrastinator and have been struggling for 6 years to downsize and get rid of old papers and stuff. Your blog hit me big time !! :). I realize that over the years I have given away so much stuff, and that I couldn’t tell you what any of it was. Your blog has given me the incentive to get going on continuing to pack up unused items and get rid of them :). I look forward to reading more of your blogs, thanks again, Laurie p.s. good luck on selling your condo
