Love It

by jessicaturner on November 21, 2008

I love my Avent Bottle Sterilizer. My mom tells me of a time when she actually had to boil water on the stove for her sterilizer in the early 80s. Good grief. I don’t think I would have the patience. Luckily, times have changed. Now we can sterilize in the microwave.

And people, I LOVE to sterilize. Seriously. If it is plastic, it goes in the sterilizer. Pump items, bottles, pacis, rattles, everything gets sterilized. Plop everything in, fill the container with 200 mL, put in the microwave and 2 minutes later you have sterile items.
Love it. Love it. Love it.
Do/did you use a sterilizer?

Never used one but thought of it. I’d imagine you wash them first? Looks like a great item!

I’ve never heard of that, but it looks like something I would have gotten a LOT of use out of! We don’t have a dishwasher, so I never feel like I get the bottles, sippy cups, etc. as clean as possible.

Pot of boiling water or the dishwasher. That’s it. My babies were born in ’89, ’91 and ’02. Same for all.

I have the same sterilizer and I love it too!!

I used the Medela Quick Clean Micro steam bags. I LOVED them because you could reuse each bag up to 20 times. My lactation consultant told me about them. I would steam pump items, bottles, nipples, pacis, and small toys too. Used it everyday while breastfeeding. LOVED IT.

I also used the Medela Quick Clean Micro steam bags… they last forever and so convenient! I am sure they do the same job though. I didn’t sterilize bottles as much as I should have but I definiltley did my breast bump attachements often. They can get so nasty! I usually just washed my bottles by hand or in the dishwasher.

used it for my first baby but not the following 3.
I just wash in hot soapy water and hand on bottle rack. works fine.

Gina November 21, 2008 at 2:34 pm

that’s “hang” on bottle rack.

Never used one-the dishwasher is hot enough!

never used one… how much do they cost????

I used the Medela Steam Bags that others have talked about to sterilize my breast pump items. As far as bottles, I used the Playtex Drop-Ins, so I never sterilized my bottles. I just put the nipples in the dishwasher.

Do they make them for Dr Brown bottles!?!!

Jen November 21, 2008 at 4:18 pm

Yep! Have the same one and love it!

I just throw sippy cups and that in the dishwasher. I have been known to pick the pacifier up off the floor in his room, quick rinse, and give it right back to him. With the first child, I boiled everything, but the second, not so much.

Yep! I used the same one….it was great and so easy!

Oh migosh. Early 80’s…yeah, I was a new mom then too…yikes. So many wonderful life made easier items even since our youngest, now nine, was born!
