I am blown away by the response I have received for the Southwest Blog-o-spondent contest. THANK YOU to each of you who have watched my video and voted for me. It means a great deal.
As many of you have seen, some negative, mean-spirited comments have been made about my video, its creativity, why I got so many votes so quickly, etc. This has saddened me – especially because it goes against the grain of who Southwest is as a company and the spirit of the contest itself. I am grateful for Paula Berg from Southwest who said the following:
Folks – While I am pleased that so many people have taken an interest in this contest, I am shocked by the harsh tone that some of you are taking with one another. Frankly, I don’t understand the reasons behind it. We are monitoring the contest behind-the-scenes. We can determine how many votes are coming from a single IP address and detect if there is cheating is taking place. As I mentioned under Ori’s post, this contest is supposed to be fun, and there is simply no reason for it to have become so nasty. Please, please refrain from any further negative commenting.
Paula Berg – Southwest Airlines
Just to clarify, being in the top three doesn’t guarentee that I go to Vegas, it just guarentees an interview. (The top TEN vote-getters are interviewed by Southwest Airlines and then they select the top three to go to Vegas.)
If, I am selected to go to Vegas for the next round, don’t worry, you will see all the creative stops pulled out. Because, then, what happens in Vegas will go in my video. So please, keep encouraging your friends and family to view my video and vote. Every bit helps, though it may make some folks angry.
Edit: And, PLEASE refrain from making negative comments of any kind – even if you are trying to defend/support me or the video. It just adds more fuel to the fire. Let’s stay positive. It is just a fun contest – there’s no need to be mean toward anyone, even if a comment that someone else makes is upsetting.
