Updating from Our Red Couch

by jessicaturner on July 9, 2008

It’s Wednesday, so I am on bed rest. What this means is that I am supposed to lay on my left side all day and night. I can occasionally switch sides, or go to my back, but my left side is the ideal position (it has something to do with blood flow to the placenta). I hate bed rest. I rarely get a day off with no agenda, but that is exactly what bed rest days are supposed to be. And so, while on my red couch I sit and think about all the things I wish I were doing, but can’t because I am on my left side.

Today I broke the rules a bit and I sat with my feet elevated and went through and cleaned out a large portion of our filing cabinet, which has needed to be done for a while… I had a fresh box of manilla folders and a new “bankers box” to put everything in. I love office supplies. I am quite satisfied with how much I got done… but my swelling didn’t go down much since I was sitting up, so I stopped and napped on my left side for a while.

I woke up when my phone rang and it was a very good call! Nashville’s best child care programs are all terribly difficult to get in to. Some, you seriously need to get on before you start trying to get pregnant. Though Matthew works from home, we still felt we needed to get at least part time child care so that he could get work done. Anyway, I applied to several highly recommended programs in February and got a call today that one had a spot for Elias! It is a wonderful, loving Christian environment and I know we will be so happy there. The best part is that it is literally down the street from my work, so if anything happens, I am 2 minutes away, and I can go there at lunch and breastfeed. Matthew and I are thrilled, as this is a big answer to prayer.

Matthew and I are READY for Elias to come. Well, at least, we are ready for me to not be pregnant anymore. :) Vanderbilt has wireless, so don’t worry, we will update both of our blogs when I go into labor and when he is born. My friend, Angie, is also going to be there for the birth to support and encourage, as well as take pictures, so I will have lots to share.

Since it is after 2, I suppose I should shower, huh? I hear irregular showers become normal once you have a baby. Guess I am just practicing a little early.

You definitely have the shower-thing spot on! I can’t tell you how many days my husband would come home to find me still pajama-clad, huddled on the couch, just waiting to thrust the baby onto him so I could shower. It was basically the only Me Time in those early days.

Can’t wait to hear the birth story!!!

I LOVE office supplies too. Anything that helps organize is on my favorites list!

The best way to get a shower with a new baby is to buy one of those battery operated bouncy seats/papasan chairs. You can put it right outside of the shower and the baby can be right there…That worked really well for me.. :)

Enjoy the rest…and we’re looking forward to hearing all about the delivery…

Hey Jess, hope you don’t have to wait much longer. I’m guilty of lurking more than I comment, a bad habit I have on all my friend’s blogs. But I’ve been thinking of you and Matt often and can’t wait to hear that little Elias has finally made his appearance! He’s a lucky little boy.

I never understood why in the world a new mom couldn’t find time to take a 10-minute shower…until I had kids.

So glad to hear you are still doing good. :) I talked to Lynse the other day and she said she met you…how cool is that. Small world, huh? Well you better get plenty of rest, and get back on that couch…no cheating, I’ve been studying my OB part of the NCLEX and I’ve been thinking of you often. ;)Good luck with everything and I will be praying for a speedy, and VERY easy delivery. Keep us posted.

Just try to stay in the moment and not wish any of these days away. Pregnancy is special too and it all passes far too quickly. I know so many women (and I know you do too) who would give anything to be pregnant and on bed rest. Remembering that might help you get through they days you think are difficult. Your precious baby will be here soon.

Sitting UP! Well there you go! – hey someone had to say it! 😉
Showers and new baby’s – yeah – that’s a sporatic thing. When you going back to work – don’t worry – I have the thing on my blog where I can see when you update …
