More on the Nursery

by jessicaturner on March 19, 2008

So I am still almost 100% on the nursery rhyme bedding for the nursery. Matthew seems to be the hold-up… he just doesn’t LOVE it like I do. I should be receiving the swatch any day now and that will hopefully seal the deal.

I have been thinking a lot about how to decorate the nursery with this theme. I have really sweet distressed letters from Pottery Barn that say DREAM that I want to hang on the wall over Eli’s crib. I also think I want to get some vintage nursery rhyme prints for the walls, like these, maybe. Or, perhaps even better and more fun would be to buy some vintage books and make a cool collage canvas or series of canvases, like this one from Melissa’s Blooming Poppy blog.

What else can you think of? I think I am going to order an extra yard of fabric to make a valance for the window. I think there will be extra that I could make a cute lamp shade. Would love your creative thoughts.

Also, don’t forget to let me know your recommendations for our baby registry! I will be drawing winners on Sunday night or Monday.

Here’s a thought to consider – since you’re so creative, you could actually do a “scrapbook” nursery theme. You would basically make pages with photos, sayings etc, then take the photos of those pages, and have them transferred to fabric. It would be very easy to have someone (if you don’t sew) make a crib-sized quilt and bumper. Then you could get solid sheets and dust ruffle in accent colors. You could paint matching quotes, Bible verses, trim, etc. on the walls to tie it all in.

you could also take the fabric, place pictures in the center of a square of it and frame them…very fun :) I can’t wait to see it all :)

I really like your and your husband’s blogs. I found them through another blog I read (Cussin’ and Prayin’).

I will be a young grandmother in a few weeks, and I’m thrilled I have been able to contribute to the nursery. I look forward to seeing and reading about what you decide about the crib stuff!

Jess, the “nursery” is the LEAST of your concerns. Frankly, whatever quilt/comforter you choose — is going to be buried in a barrage of “little blue blankets.” You need to focus on the walls, and honestly, aside from the bumper and skirt — it’s ALL about what’s on the walls — and the fabric is quite inconsequintial.

Again, FOCUS on the walls, and possibly the floor mat, that’s really all that anyone will see!
